A.D. Gallery Announces Call for Entries for 16th Annual International Juried Exhibition

The A.D. Gallery at UNC Pembroke is accepting submissions for its 16th Annual International Juried Exhibition, “Solastalgia,” which will be on display Feb. 11 through March 3, 2027. The deadline to enter is Dec. 7, 2026.

The exhibition invites artists to explore the theme of solastalgia, a term coined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht to describe the emotional and experiential distress caused by adverse environmental change experienced within one’s home environment.

The exhibition seeks artwork that gives visual form to the experience of watching familiar places change. Artists may interpret the theme through personal, political, poetic, documentary, speculative or abstract approaches.

“Solastalgia” is open to two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, installations and digital media, including video. Submitted work will be considered based on originality, composition, technique, style, expression and craft. AI-generated work will not be considered.

Artists may explore themes including loss of place and identity resulting from climate change, extraction or development; memory and changing landscapes; collective environmental grief; resilience and adaptation; sensory experiences of environmental change; and Indigenous and generational knowledge of land in flux.

The exhibition will be juried by Carla Rokes, an artist and educator who has taught studio art at UNCP since 2003. Rokes holds a BFA from UNC Charlotte and an MFA from Pratt Institute. Her current studio work explores emotional and ecological transformation through abstract, layered mixed-media drawings.

Awards include $400 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. The entry fee is $35.
