Bodies of Governance
Leading Through Partnership
UNC Pembroke’s governance and advisory structure includes key bodies that support
the university’s mission through leadership, advocacy, policy-making and staff and
faculty representation. From the Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors to the Faculty
and Staff Senates, each group plays a vital role in shaping campus life and institutional
direction. University committees and clearly defined policies further support effective
decision-making and ensure transparency, collaboration and accountability across all
areas of the institution.

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees, part of the UNC system, consists of 13 members, including appointments
from the UNC Board of Governors, the General Assembly and the student body president.

Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate at UNC Pembroke is the primary academic policy-making body of the
university, advising the Chancellor and administrators on educational matters. It
includes elected faculty representatives, the Chancellor and the Provost. The Senate
operates through a structured system of committees and meets monthly during the academic
year.

Staff Senate
Staff Senate represents SHRA and EHRA non-teaching staff, promoting open communication
with university leadership and advocating for staff interests. It provides a forum
for discussing workplace concerns, recommends policy improvements, and serves in an
advisory role to the Chancellor. The Senate also connects UNCP staff to the UNC Staff
Assembly and offers opportunities for involvement through events, service, recognition
programs and governance participation.

University Committees
University Committees support decision-making and operations, with groups like Administrative
Review and Appeals, Institutional Committees and Operational Committees handling diverse
functions, from policy oversight to campus initiatives.

University Policies
UNCP is committed to providing information related to its administration and operations
in a manner that is clear, concise, organized, accessible and current. To that end,
UNCP has a cataloging system for the identification and classification of its policies
and regulations. This system provides ease of use to students, faculty, and staff
as well as others such as potential students and employees.
