The first step in your journey to BraveNation is to create an account. Once you create an account, you can:

After you set up your UNCP account, you can choose the application option that best suits you.

UNCP Application

Apply directly through the UNCP application to manage and view your application status and schedule a visit to campus. Create your account using a personal email you frequently check, log in, select your student type and complete your application.

CFNC

Use the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) application portal to apply. CFNC is a free resource for North Carolina students to manage college planning and applications. Create a CFNC account or use your existing account to apply to UNCP.

Common App

UNCP is a member of the Common Application. Apply to UNCP through the Common Application by creating an account, selecting UNCP as your institution and completing the required sections to submit your application with ease.

Application Fee Waiver

We’re proud to support those who serve. Active-duty service members, veterans, reservists and National Guard members are eligible for an application fee waiver when applying to our undergraduate or graduate programs.

To receive your waiver, simply submit your LES or DD-214 to the appropriate admissions office. If you have completed three or more years of active duty service you will be considered a transfer student for admission purposes. You must request and provide to us a Joint Services Transcript.

Residency Determination

The NC Residency Determination Service (RDS) determines residency for tuition purposes for all UNC System universities. If you are an undergraduate student applying for admission and claiming in-state residency for tuition purposes, you must visit NCresidency.org to verify your residency.

Please note that the process could take up to 25 days to complete, so starting early is in your best interest.

If you have already completed the residency verification process and obtained your Residency Certification Number (RCN), you can enter your RCN when filling out your application. If you do not already have your RCN, you may submit your application and then come back and enter your RCN once you have it. It is your responsibility to complete the Residency Determination Process in a timely manner.

Benefit Users

  • Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, and you are using VA Education Benefits at UNCP, you can access the Residency Determination Service to request in-state consideration for tuition purposes as a VA Education Benefit recipient. 
  •  Apply online for GI Bill® benefits (for a child using transfer of entitlement Post 9/11 benefits you must wait until turning 18 or graduate from High School before applying). 
  • If you are unable to complete the online application for Post 9/11 benefits you can complete the pdf form located on the Department of Veterans Affairs website and submit a copy of the completed form to our office in person or by emailing veterans@uncp.edu
  • Upon completion of the online application, print, screenshot or save the confirmation page. The confirmation page contains information the School Certifying Official can use to process your benefits while you await the delivery of your official Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
  • If you have already applied for your benefits and have your CoE on hand (email or paper copy) you don't need to reapply. 
  • Email a copy of the CoE or application confirmation page to veterans@uncp.edu.
  • Register for classes in your BraveWeb account.
  • Once you are registered for class you can request enrollment certification by selecting the menu option to Request VA Education Benefit Payment  and completing the indicated steps.
  • Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, and you are using VA Education Benefits at UNCP, you can access the Residency Determination Service to request in-state consideration for tuition purposes as a VA Education Benefit recipient. 
  • Apply online for Chapter 35 Dependents Education Assistance benefits. 
  • You can select the option to complete the online application without logging in.
  • Upon completion of the online application, print, screenshot or save the confirmation page. The confirmation page contains information the School Certifying Official can use to process your benefits while you await the delivery of your official Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
  • If you have already applied for your benefits and have your CoE on hand (email or paper copy), you don't need to reapply. 
  • Email a copy of the CoE or application confirmation page to veterans@uncp.edu.
  • Our team will contact you to obtain your full VA file number. This is the social security number of the veteran sponsoring your benefits.
  • Register for classes in your BraveWeb account.
  • Once you are registered for class you can request enrollment certification by selecting the menu option to Request VA Education Benefit Payment  and completing the indicated steps.
  • Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, you can access the Residency Determination Service to request in-state consideration for tuition purposes as a VA Education Benefit recipient. 
  • If you have previously used GI Bill benefits at another school or for another program, you will need to complete a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training to update your information to reflect your program of study at UNCP.
  • Upon completion of the online application, print, screenshot or save the confirmation page. The confirmation page contains information the School Certifying Official can use to process your benefits while you await the delivery of your updated Certificate of Eligibility (CoE).
  • If you have already updated your benefits information to reflect UNCP and have your new CoE on hand (email or paper copy), you don't need to reapply. 
  • Email a copy of the CoE or application confirmation page to veterans@uncp.edu
  • Register for classes in your BraveWeb account.
  • Once you are registered for class you can request enrollment certification by selecting the menu option to Request VA Education Benefit Payment  and completing the indicated steps.
  • Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, and you are using VA Education Benefits at UNCP, you can access the Residency Determination Service to request in-state consideration for tuition purposes as a VA Education Benefit recipient. 
  •  Email your Name, Banner Number and VR&E counselor's contact information (name and email) to veterans@uncp.edu
  • Once you are registered for class you can request enrollment certification by selecting the menu option to Request VA Education Benefit Payment  and completing the indicated steps.

In August 2014, Congress passed the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014. Section 702 of the “Choice Act” requests that the university provide in-state residency for tuition purposes to veterans and their family members using the Active Duty Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Chapter 31) or Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) for terms that begin after July 1, 2015 with the following qualifying circumstances:

Necessary documents for review under Section 702 classification are:

A student seeking in-state tuition under Section 702 must be using GI Bill entitlement for the term in which their resident status will be evaluated.

A residence determination cannot be made until all supporting documents have been received. Once a covered individual is determined to have met the qualifications for in-state residency, this person will retain his or her status as long as he or she remains continuously enrolled in the institution. 

  • A veteran who lives in the state in which the institution of higher learning is located (regardless of his/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.
  • A spouse or child using transferred benefits who lives in the state in which the institution of higher learning is located (regardless of his/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of the transferor’s discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.
  • A spouse or child using benefits under the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship who lives in the state in which the institution of higher learning is located (regardless of his/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of the service member’s death in the line of duty following a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.
  • Most recent DD-214, Member 4 for the veteran who earned the GI Bill entitlement to be used.
  • Completed Section 702 Residency Application Form.
  • Proof of a North Carolina address, such as a housing contract, lease agreement or mortgage.
