The achievements of outstanding alumni and former elite student-athletes at UNC Pembroke were on full display at the 55th Annual Alumni Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony on October 27. The event was part of the university’s Homecoming Week festivities, which featured a parade, concert and throwback party.

UNC Pembroke has announced the newest 1887 Society Award inductees. They are Gabe Hall, Ranya Johnson, Cara Martin, Magally Ortiz-Rojas, Whitney Peck, Shelby Perry and Madison Schwenneker.
UNCP spotlights Brenda Chavez Soriano in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, UNC Pembroke proudly recognizes junior history major Brenda Chavez Soriano. Soriano, a Maynor Honors College student, stands out in the classroom and the campus community, assisting with coordinating Hispanic heritage events, among other duties as chair of the Hispanic and Caribbean American Heritage Committee.

UNC Pembroke climbed 11 spots in the newly released U.S. News & World Report 2023-2024 Best Colleges rankings.
UNCP alumnae selected as Lead for North Carolina Fellows
UNC Pembroke alumnae Brittany Best and Nyah Sykes have been selected for the Lead for North Carolina at the UNC School of Government fellowship program. The program recruits, trains and places young leaders in paid one-year fellowships to strengthen local governments across the state and cultivate a new generation of public service leaders.

UNC Pembroke has announced the appointments of four new members of its Board of Trustees — Ron Gibson '74, Jim Hyler and Pat Willoughby '76.
Blake, Rowson named 2023 Brody Early Assurance Scholars at UNCP
Freshmen Connor Blake and Angela Rowson are the 2023 Brody Early Assurance Scholars at UNC Pembroke, granting admission to one of the top medical programs in North Carolina. The UNCP pair have been guaranteed spots in the 2027 entering class at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

UNCP music professor honored with International Composition Award
Dr. Joanna Hersey, professor of music and associate dean of Student Success and Curriculum for the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC Pembroke, was honored at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference held May 29-June 3 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
UNCP alumna Taliyah Daniels selected as Presidential Scholar
Taliyah Daniels, a 2023 graduate and former SGA president at UNC Pembroke, has been selected as a Presidential Scholar for the UNC System for the 2023-2024 academic year. Daniels was among three recent graduates of UNC System institutions selected for the prestigious program. Presidential Scholars provide a wide range of professional functions for the system office.
