Biotech Center

The Biotechnology Research and Training Center (BRTC) has the mission to stimulate the transformation of knowledge through coordinated efforts into increased economic well-being of southeast North Carolina.

The core activity of the Biotechnology Center is to establish workable relations between UNC Pembroke and academic, business and local government entities to develop innovative training and research opportunities. The BRTC consists of laboratories for fermentation, chemistry, molecular biology and other life science technologies. The center has the capacity to address research problems in all sectors of biotechnology: agriculture, manufacturing, environmental and biomedical.

The Biotechnology Center is headquartered at the Regional Center for Economic, Community and Professional Development which is located at the Carolina and Commerce Technology Center (COMtech). Directions to the facility are below.

Goal 1

Increase the number of higher-paying biotechnology jobs by increasing the availability of a trained work force and continuing dialogue with the private sector

Goal 2

Mobilize underrepresented populations in the region by providing biotechnology training

Goal 3

Offer entrepreneurs technology, business support and connection to capital sources

Take I-95 south to Exit 17.
Turn right onto N.C. Highway 711.
Continue straight, through the light, onto NC-711/Country Club Road.
Continue to follow NC-711 for about 6 miles to COMtech Park.
On your left you will see a huge building (Angel Exchange). COMtech entrance is on your left.
Turn left into COMtech.
Take first right onto Livermore Drive.
Turn left at the last drive-way on your left. (You will be parking in the Regional Center Parking Lot.)
Entrance to Biotech Center is located behind the Regional Center.

From US-74 W/US-76 W

Merge onto 1-95 N/ US-301 N via EXIT 209B toward I-95 N/US-301 N/Lumberton/Fayetteville.
Take the NC-72 exit, EXIT 17 toward NC-711 toward Pembroke.
Continue straight, through the light, onto NC-711/Country Club Road.
Continue to follow NC-711 for about 6 miles to COMtech Park.
