University Communications & Marketing

University Communications and Marketing (UCM) leads the charge in promoting UNC Pembroke to prospective students, alumni and the broader community. Our team is dedicated to building and maintaining a strong, consistent brand that reflects the university’s mission, values and unique identity. Through strategic messaging, creative services, media outreach and digital content, we help tell UNCP’s story across multiple platforms. UCM also ensures that all marketing and communication efforts align with university standards and brand guidelines, fostering a unified voice and visual identity across campus.

The UNCP Brand

In addition, UCM:

  • manages licensing program
  • manages media relationships
  • promotes positive community interaction through community relationships
  • coordinates university chamber memberships
  • supports the university's Board of Visitors
  • maintains UNCP's online presence, including social media
  • provides news and photo coverage of campus events

Marketing & Advertising

At UNCP, UCM strategically manages all university-wide advertising efforts. Led by the chief communications and marketing officer (CCMO), the team develops and implements an annual advertising plan designed to elevate the university’s visibility and attract prospective students.

In addition to traditional advertising, UCM oversees various social media and digital marketing initiatives to ensure consistent and compelling messaging.

Departmental Marketing Support
Academic and administrative departments interested in promoting specific programs or events are encouraged to collaborate with UCM. The CCMO will provide expert guidance on the most effective strategies and coordinate any advertising placements. Please note that while strategic support is provided, individual departments are responsible for covering associated costs.

To maintain brand integrity and ensure alignment with university standards, all advertisements and promotional materials — regardless of origin — must be reviewed and approved by the CCMO or the assistant director before publication. To request UCM services or approval, please submit a request using the form below.

Photography and Video Notice

UNCP is a public institution that frequently captures photographs and videos of campus life, including events, ceremonies and daily activities, to support and promote its mission.

By visiting, enrolling in or working at UNCP, and by being present in public areas on campus, you grant the university — and those authorized by it — the right to use and reproduce any images or recordings taken of you during your time on campus. This usage may occur without compensation.

All photographs and video files are the exclusive property of the university.

Photographs taken with the consent of UCM staff are also considered university property. These images may be used for non-commercial purposes by UNCP students, faculty and staff. With prior approval, off-campus media outlets and publications may also use these images.

All published images should be credited as: “UNCP – Communications & Marketing” in both print and digital formats.

Please complete the universal request form for photography services. For more information, contact Willis Glassgow, University Photographer, at 910.775.4245 or willis.glassgow@uncp.edu.

Videography Services Overview

University Communications and Marketing (UCM) prioritizes video projects that support the university’s strategic goals. These include:

  • Promoting academic and extracurricular programs that strengthen relationships with current and prospective students, families, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Enhancing the university’s image and increasing public awareness.
  • Communicating the university’s mission and values to a broad audience.

Projects Outside UCM Scope

UCM does not typically produce videos that:

  • Document lectures or presentations intended for non-promotional use.
  • Target a limited internal audience.
  • Involve livestreaming without a broader promotional purpose.

Production Criteria

To be considered for production by UCM, a video project should meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Appeal to a broad and diverse audience.
  • Enhance the university’s reputation or visibility.
  • Support recruitment for undergraduate or graduate programs.
  • Aid in fundraising or alumni engagement efforts.
  • Convey essential information that is best communicated through video rather than other media.

Well defined projects can be completed in as little as 1-2 weeks depending on talent schedule and production work load. Captioning can take an additional 1-4 days. Please complete the universal request form and someone will contact you within 3 days.

For more information, contact the university videographer at 910.775.4569 or video@uncp.edu.

Licensing & Trademark

UNC Pembroke has partnered with Affinity Licensing to license the university’s marks (logos and seal) to assure quality and to control usage of those marks. Trademark licensing creates cooperative working relationships between UNCP, the manufacturers of approved and authorized products, and the retail community. It ensures that all merchandise bearing the university’s marks promotes and protects the image of the university while fulfilling the needs of consumers.

UCM manages the retail and trademark licensing programs. If you are a vendor interested in retailing merchandise with official UNCP logos, the first step is to become a licensed vendor through our program's manager. Campus departments must use a licensed vendor for any items ordered that incorporate UNCP trademarks (excluding printed material).

Get Licensed

Any person, business or organization interested in producing items bearing the university's trademarks must first obtain a license through Affinity Licensing.

As always, state purchasing policies must be followed.
