BraveMail Access

BraveMail (Microsoft Office 365) is UNCP's official email for students. Students are expected to check messages frequently. Below are the instructions to access your account. It can also be set up on a mobile device using an email app.
  1. From any UNCP webpage, select the Student BraveMail link at the bottom of the page. It is also available via the Quicklinks dropdown list.  You can also get to the login page directly by going to https://outlook.office365.com/bravemail.uncp.edu.
  2. On the login page, enter your email address and BraveWeb password.  
  3. After initial login, you may need to select (UTC 05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) as the time zone. 
  4. You will then have access to your BraveMail (Office 365) email, calendar, Microsoft Office apps and more. You can even download the Microsoft Office suite to up to 5 of your personal devices.

Student email addresses are username@bravemail.uncp.edu.

Office 365 Email on Mobile

UNCP faculty, staff and students use the following links for instructions to configure Android and Apple phones and other mobile devices for Office 365 (commonly referred to as O365) email. Note that if you change your network password, it must also be changed in the email settings on your mobile device. In that case, go to Settings and key in your new password or delete the account and create a new one. Email can also be set up on the Outlook app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

When you add your UNCP Exchange ActiveSync account, you can sync your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes with your Android device.

  1. Add your UNCP Exchange account. Tap Settings > Accounts and backup.
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Email.
  5. Tap Exchange.
  6. Enter Exchange Server Settings.

    • Enter the following for Email address.
      • Faculty/Staff:  username@uncp.edu (where username is your UNCP network account username)
      • Students:  username@bravemail.uncp.edu

    Note: Faculty/Staff must NOT enter the actual email address (such as jane.doe@uncp.edu), because setup will fail.

    • Domain\username:
      • Faculty/Staff: uncp.local\username@uncp.edu
      • Students: uncp.local\username@bravemail.uncp.edu
    • Exchange server: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 443
    • Select, Use secure connection (SSL).
    • Tap Next.

Multi-Factor Authentication

After being directed to the Microsoft login page. Log in and select the verification method for multi-factor authentication.

Complete Verification

After using the Microsoft Authenticator app, entering the code or receiving the phone call, verification will be complete.

Sync Options in Manual setup. Select sync options for mail, contacts, calendars and tasks. When you're finished, tap Done.

When you add your UNCP Exchange ActiveSync account, you can sync your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes with your iOS device.

Add your Exchange account

Tap Settings > Mail > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.

  • If you already have an account set up in the app, tap Accounts > Add Account.

Enter your Email Information

  • Enter the following for Email.
    • Faculty/Staff: username@uncp.edu (where username is your UNCP network account username).
    • Students: username@bravemail.uncp.edu
  • Enter an account description such as UNCP, then tap Next. 

Note: Faculty/staff must NOT enter the actual email address (such as jane.doe@uncp.edu), because setup will fail.

Connect to your Exchange Server

After you enter your email information (as indicated above), tap Sign In to automatically discover your Exchange account information and continue setting up the account.

Multi-Factor Authentication

After being directed to the Microsoft login page. Log in and select the verification method for multi-factor authentication.

Complete Verification

After using the Microsoft Authenticator app, entering the code or receiving the phone call, verification will be complete.

Sync your content

You can then select options to sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes. When you're finished, tap Save.

Removing an Email Account

If you find that you need to delete an email account, use these steps.

  • Tap Settings > Mail > Accounts. 
  • From the 'ACCOUNTS' section, tap the email account.
  • Tap Delete Account (located at the bottom, so may require scrolling).
  • To confirm, tap Delete from My iPhone.

Alumni Email Account

After graduation, a person's student account changes to an alumni account. This means alumni can retain access to email. However, there will no longer be access to BraveWeb resources (such as Banner Self-Service), Google apps, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Cisco Webex and Zoom (including recordings) and more. Files that the student wishes to keep need to be downloaded prior to graduation.

Since alumni accounts don't have access to BraveWeb resources, download any information you need from Banner Self-Service, Online Account Center, etc.

UNCP email remains the same

  • Your email address remains in the format xxxxxx@bravemail.uncp.edu.
  • All prior messages remain in the account. 
  • Use Quicklinks or go to https://outlook.office.com and log in with your email address and password.
  • Continue to change your password every 90 days. Prior to expiration, you will receive a password expiration email which contains a link to use for changing the account password. 
  • If you've lost access to your account, you can reset your password using the Self-Service Password Reset Utility.

Microsoft Office Apps

  • Alumni do not have access to Microsoft 365 online apps.
  • Alumni do not have access to install Microsoft 365 apps to their devices.
  • UNCP Microsoft 365 software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) will no longer be licensed so the files saved to your computer become read-only until you purchase a personal Microsoft Office license.

Travel Abroad IT Restrictions

If you plan to travel to Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria or Yemen, you'll need to complete the Temporary International Travel Request at least two weeks prior to leaving. Get additional information from the Help Desk webpage.

Log into BraveWeb to opt-in to your account

  • Log into BraveWeb, click the Alumni Account Opt in link. Read the information and click I Agree to extend access to your alumni account for another year.
  • If the opt-in is not done within this timeframe, the account will be deactivated. You'll need to contact the Help Desk for assistance.

Annually

  • The Alumni Account Opt-in has to be done every year so it might be best to create a calendar reminder.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate: After acceptance as an undergraduate or graduate student, your account license is changed from alumni to student.
  • After readmission, you should be able to log into your UNCP student account and have access to all technology resources again. If there are any issues, contact the Help Desk for assistance.  
For technology assistance, contact the DoIT Help Desk. When emailing the Help Desk for assistance, include a contact phone number. If emailing from a personal email address, also include your UNCP username or email address.
